Amanda's
Love provides handmade infant quilts just big enough to fill the
isolette of a critically ill or premature infant. These quilts
are individually made for each precious child by a caring and
compassionate volunteer. The materials are donated by local fabric
stores and generous individuals.
This ministry was birthed through the imagination and love of
a mother-daughter team. The daughter, was herself at one time
a preemie at the Stony Brook University Hospital Neo-Natal Intensive
Care Unit. With the help of well trained medical personnel and
the grace of God, today she is a healthy teenager. It
is her compassion for others' suffering which initiated this ministry,
and so we have named it "Amanda's Love".
We hope to touch every infant and their parents
through a simple act of love; a small hand made quilt.
These blankets can not heal their disease nor increase
their weight, but they are a gesture of human warmth
and compassion. It says, "we're praying for you" and "you're
not alone". Every infant will be prayed for by name for the duration
of their hospital stay. When the child is released they can each
take home their quilt, a reminder of their victory. For those
who go to an eternal home, it is our prayer that this small blanket may
in some way bring comfort to the grieving parents; reminding them that they
are never alone.
Once again, the purpose of this outreach is
to comfort others while they travel this tenuous and
often painful road. With so much uncertainty in life, a little
prayer can go a long way. As someone who has 'been there'
we welcome inquiries and responses from parents, relatives and
hospital staff. We are here to help in any way
that we can.
This ministry
is entirely supported by the generous giving of individuals
and businesses. If you or someone you know would like be involved
through the donation of goods, services or finances please contact
